Happy World Book Day!

I'm straining to remember the first real book I ever read (i.e., something with more than ten pages). But as nothing is coming to mind, I'm going to settle for the following.

Last book I read:

The Best a Man Can Get by John O'Farrell

Favourite Childhood Books:

Anne of Green Gables by Lucy Maud Montgomery (I had a crush on Gilbert)

The Island of Adventure by Enid Blyton (I had a crush on Phillip)

My Side of the Mountain by Jean Craighead George (no crush, but it was a damn good book!)

Sweet Valley High series (who couldn't love two blonde twins - one evil and one good?)

Favourite Adult Books:

The Time Traveller's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger

What Was Lost by Catherine O'Flynn

Something Borrowed by Emily Giffin

Almost French by Sarah Turnbull

We Need to Talk About Kevin by Lionel Shriver

THE SWEET VALLEY HIGH BOOKS ARE THE BEST THING EVER PERIOD END OF SENTENCE END OF STORY.

Sorry, I couldn't concentrate on the rest of the post. Jessica and Elizabeth Wakefield ROCK FOREVER!!!

(PS: Fearless, also "created by Francine Pascal, is also a pretty cool series.)

(PPS: While I was reading Sweet Valley High, my sister, three years younger than I, was reading Sweet Valley Twins, and the youngest, seven years younger than I, was reading Sweet Valley Kids. Though I never admitted it to them, YES, I stole their books and read about Jess and Liz in jr. high and elementary school.)

Haha!! I'd steal the books, too! Good on you.

I used to *love* Elizabeth and Jessica. The plotlines were hilarious! Remember the one where Liz was in an accident, hit her head, and started acted like Jess? Or the girl who died from a drug OD (I think she was deaf)? Pure gold.

YES!!!

Regina, the rich deaf girl, died from trying heroin. Shocking!!!

I liked the one where Jessica wanted to be different and dyed her hair BLACK. I almost died!!! How could she DO that????

Later, I discovered that fiction lies. Because there is no way her blond hair would have gone back to blond that quickly after being dyed BLACK. But oh well.

*sigh*... I miss my SVH friends...

I loved Philip from the Adventure series as well. Animals had a thing for him, didn't they? One thing all my heroes have in common is that they are always kind to animals.

Oh, boy. OH BOY! Sweet Valley High was awesome. I totally forgot about those. I could totally sit and daydream about those books all day when I was younger. Thanks for the fun reminder!

Kate, I forgot about animals' attraction to Philip! He always had a million creatures running around his body.

And oh, that cute tuft of hair he had sticking up... ddidn't Jack call him 'Tufty'? :)

Criss and Cindy, we should start a SVH Fan Club! However, being in my mid-thirties, that might not be construed as a very mature thing!

Ah well, I'm willing to sacrifice my reputation for SVH! :)

Marsha, I have to admit to not having read a lot of the books on your list, but I do remember the first book I ever read: Fantastic voyage by Isaac Asimov. And I think I should get bonus points because it was a long, long time ago. ;)

Oh oh! Can I join the SVH club?? You know, I was just thinking about that the other day!

I used to traipse down to the bookstore at Sunnyside Mall and buy the latest installment. I had 2 hours of bliss reading about Liz and Jess!
